About Phil Nusbaum
When Phil Nusbaum discovered bluegrass as an undergraduate, he got a banjo and joined the college radio station. Since then he’s been contributed to many NPR music programs and hosted his own show, Bluegrass Review, which began in 2003. In addition to his radio work, he played the banjo for Urban Renewal Bluegrass when it won a Minnesota Music Academy award for quality and currently plays banjo and sings with the Blue Drifters Bluegrass Band. Phil holds a PH.D. in Folklore from Indiana University and teaches aspiring players and radio producers at McNally Smith College of Music in St. Paul, Minnesota.
