Frank Solivan of Frank Solivan & Dirty Kitchen will be blogging from the California Bluegrass Association’s Father’s Day Bluegrass Festival in Grass Valley, Calif., June 17-20. A native Californian, Frank will perform at this year’s event and provide our readers with a unique viewpoint of what the CBA hails as the “the largest, and we think best, bluegrass festival on the West Coast.”
This year’s event features performances from:
Rhonda Vincent & the Rage
Michael Cleveland & Flamekeeper
James King Band
The Infamous Stringdusters
Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out
Day 1, June 17
We’ve been teaching at the pre-festival music camp and last night we played a full show to bring a close to it and to kick-off the Father’s Day Bluegrass Festival. The festival officially starts today.
The Infamous Stringdusters had a radio interview/performance today and needed some help… we all had band members spread out so we combined forces and did a handful of tunes/interview as The Dirty Dusters on KVMR in Nevada City. What a great bunch of friends we have made with those guys. Its exceptionally cool that we’ve been able to hang this week. Usually we are all saying hello in passing as we run off to the next gig.
Its quite the compound here at the hotel in Nevada City. Dirty Kitchen upstairs and the Stringdusters just below us. Laurie Lewis, Tom Rozum down the way, Kathy Kallick and her band just to name a few that are here. There’s been pickin’ on the balcony and new found friendships to boot. Life is good.
