*American Routes – Poets of Twang: Buddy Miller and John Doe
What happens when two guys from the East Coast head West with guitars? They become country singers, naturally. But the path there wasn’t so obvious. Buddy Miller has been everywhere: Austin, Los Angeles, New York and now Nashville. We’ll talk about his musical journey from outlaw to alt-country and how he’s carving out a new “old” style in the Music City. Then we’ll visit with Los Angeles poet and punk rocker John Doe of the band X, who has found inspiration in the Countrypolitan sounds of the 1960s.
Bluegrass Breakdown – Down on the Farm
We’ll be paying tribute to the most honored and revered profession in BluegrassLand. It’s back-breaking, unrelenting work—full of dust, drought and depression. It doesn’t pay well and usually has few rewards other than the knowledge that it’s an avocation that really matters. Blue Highway, James King, Tim O’Brien and the Gibson Brothers will be singing about the man who feeds us all—the great BluegrassLand farmer.
Bluegrass Master Class – Jessie Baker, Chris Hillman & Herb Pederson, Ralph Stanley
This week we’ll be airing a series of interviews highlighting several music legends and one rising star. First off, Katy Daley has a banjo-centric with 18 year old five string picker Jessie Baker of Michael Cleveland and Flamekeeper. Then, Founding Fathers of Country Rock Chris Hillman and Herb Pedersen sit down with Lee Michael Demsey for an interview and performance. And last, but certainly not least, an interview with the incomparable Dr. Ralph Stanley.
Bluegrass Review
Bluegrass to Be Thankful For. It is a show of listener requests of especially meaningful bluegrass, and listeners tell us why the songs are meaningful. Show host Phil Nusbaum enjoys talking to listeners. Contact him at pnusbaum@bitstream.net.
Bluegrass Signal – Larry Sparks
Larry Sparks has a brand-new release, so it seems like a good time to revisit some of his music from the ‘70s and ‘80s. This week’s Bluegrass Signal is presented by co-host Todd Gracyk, and includes music from the albums “Bluegrass Old And New,” “You Could Have Called,” “Kind’a Lonesome,” “John Deere Tractor,” “The Testing Times,” and “Travelin’.” Larry Sparks calls himself “the youngest of the old-timers,” and this hour demonstrates the truth of this description.
*The Dick Spottswood Show
Some great Texas fiddling opens the show, and the Carter Family shows off some Texas style yodeling. Bert Williams brings back Brother Low Down from last week to introduce some comic sermons and church narratives, including Wendy Bagwell’s encounter with ecclesiastical rattlesmakes–a story you won’t forget. A controlled substance serenade in the second hour celebrates coke sniffers and bootleggers, and Rose Maddox sings a special hymn for Thanksgiving week. Obsolete Music is thankful to have you as a listener and friend!
*etown – Barenaked Ladies & Catie Curtis
In this encore broadcast, the beloved Barenaked Ladies return to eTown to share some songs from their children’s CD Snacktime. These cleverly crafted tunes definitely appeal to the kid in all of us! Catie Cutis is back in eTown, too, with some of her strongest songs ever. Gather the entire family and enjoy a special eTown filled with wit, wisdom, and a whole lot of heart, all in this week’s re-broadcast.

Old Time Jam
Thanksgiving turkeys rule, both as part of the holiday feast and as leftovers after “Turkey Day.” Two sets of tunes honor the bird which is the symbol of a thankful family dinner, and one more, “Supper Time,” honors the family dinner as a symbol of home. And a variety of miscellaneous old-time music helps the celebratory theme, with numbers from The Stairwell Sisters, Adam Hurt, Erynn Marshall, The Canote Brothers, Mark Simos and Friends, Craig Johnson and just a lot more jam folks.
