This week’s American Routes hits the road in story and song. We visit with country singer and songwriter Rosanne Cash about life in a musical family, living in Nashville and her recent release, Black Cadillac. And join Nick as he rides the rails–it’s a trip on the City of New Orleans train with the singer that made it famous, folk hero Arlo Guthrie. Plus two hours of the traveling blues, as well as country, jazz, rock and soul and more.
Bluegrass Breakdown – Kruger Brothers Live
They defy description, categorization and convention. In a world of bands that are sounding sound more and more frighteningly alike, they stand alone, fearlessly exploring new musical waters with a level of excitement, energy and creativity, the likes of which the genre hasn’t seen before. Uwe, Jens and Joel, the always jaw-dropping Kruger Brothers, will be ganging around the microphones … doing what they do best … just being themselves.
Bluegrass Master Class – Banks of the Ohio #88
Bluegrass Review
We dive right into new and recent bluegrass at the show’s outset. Then, our Gem of bluegrass treats sentimental songs and bluegrass. This type of song from the 19th century has influenced 20th and 21st century bluegrass. Later on, we talk to hard-driving banjoist Jessie Baker. At this writing, Jessie plays with Michael Cleveland and Flamekeeper. Jessie is a young banjoist who derives inspiration from the stylists of the past. The show concludes with a little western motif bluegrass. The playlist is located at www.bluegrassreview.com. Join the Bluegrass Review discussion on Facebook. A Red Allen medley opens Obsolete’s second hour, which includes brief visits with Hobart Smith, Son House, and a a medley of preacher’s blues.

Uptown Bluegrass with George McKnight – John
Something special this week. We feature a tribute to John Hartford and several tunes from a great new CD “Memories of John” by the Hartford String Band, a terrific group of musicians (Red Clay Records). As well, we’ve included several tunes from some of the different bands and groups John made with music over the many years of his career. John’s love for the music and fun he had with it shines through with many of his recordings.
