Regular Programming
*American Routes – Horsepower: The Cowboy Rides Into the Future
This week on American Routes we’re exploring the life of the cowboy. From the Nevada deserts to the swampy forests of Florida, the cowboy is an enduring symbol of American individualism and self-reliance. We’ll visit with several real, working cowboys, including a few who can sing a tune or two. Wylie Gustafson might be better known as the man behind the Yahoo yodel, but we’ll talk ranching and horses, as well as music. Then we’ll visit with Creole cowboy Geno Delafose to learn how he mixes zydeco with cattle raising. Plus a couple of Cracker cowboys share tales of cow-hunting, and lots of music to get you out on the trail.
Bluegrass Breakdown – Chains
They bind, confine, confound, confuse and imprison. They come in all shapes and sizes and appear in both the physical and metaphysical dimensions. And everyone in BluegrassLand is saddled with at least one or more. With the able assistance of Front Range, the Kruger Brothers, Darin Aldridge, Junior Sisk & Ramblers Choice and Tim O’Brien, we’ll be looking at broken chains, family chains, gold watches and chains, chains of memories, chains and darkness and chains of fools. (originally aired July 2010)
Bluegrass Gospel USA! – Tues. 8 p.m. ET
Bluegrass Review – #1147
Early in the show, it’s songs of the Midwest. Few songs are written about the Midwest, but it’s definitely part of bluegrass country! The Gem of Bluegrass comments on the 1938 breakup between Charlie and Bill Monroe, and their careers after the breakup. Then, we have a “songs from life” segment, where bluegrass artists tell us about the inspirations for their songs. If you want to contact host Phil Nusbaum, the email address is pnusbaum@bitstream.net or join the conversation at Facebook. The playlist is located at www.bluegrassreview.com.
Bluegrass Signal – #402
Liz Meyer, who had lived in The Netherlands since 1985, passed away recently after a decade-long battle with cancer. She was a tireless promoter of European bluegrass and founder of the annual EWOB Festival, as well as well-respected songwriter and singer. This week’s memorial tribute plays a sampling of her original compositions, as recorded by the Del McCoury Band, Laurie Lewis & Tom Rozum, Red Wine, and Liz herself with either the band Nugget or a bevy of bluegrass all-stars. The remainder of the music on this program is made by folks who will appear in Northern California concerts and festival.
*Capital Americana – Wed. 8 p.m. ET, Sat. 2 p.m. ET
*The Dick Spottswood Show – #363
