Banks of the Ohio (a rebroadcast)
We visit 1967 in the third half hour. That year, Reno & Harrell and Ralph Stanley & the Clinch Mountain Boys were new on the scene, and Peter Rowan left the Blue Grass Boys at age 24. Pennsylvania neighbors Gloria Belle and Del McCoury each recorded debut albums. The Stonemans won Country Music Vocal Group of the Year, but would soon relinquish the title to the Osborne Brothers, who recorded “Rocky Top” in November, over the objections of their producers. A production of the International Bluegrass Music Museum, hosted by Fred Bartenstein.
Bluegrass Breakdown – Shuckin’ The Corn
We’ll be examining one of the most important substances in Bluegrassland. It fuels our cars, excites the imagination and, when distilled, delights the senses. With the able assistance of Alison Krauss, Flatt & Scruggs, the Cliffhangers and the Grascals, we’ll be looking at corn shuckin’, corn tuggin’, corn hoeing, corn breading, corn frittering and corn drinking.
Bluegrass Signal
The Membership Campaign edition of Bluegrass Signal features music from the just-released DVD, “Bluegrass 1963,” with highlights from the TV shows of Don Reno, Red Smiley & the Tennessee Cut-Ups (as well as their special guests, The Stanley Brothers), plus music from two exceptional new CDs: Michael Cleveland & Flamekeeper’s “Leavin’ Town,” and Del McCoury’s “Moneyland.” All are available for your donation to “Bluegrass Country.” Thanks very much for your support!
*The Dick Spottswood Show
This week’s featured CD is TRAGIC SONGS OF LIFE, a classic 1956 collection of traditional music by the legendary Louvin Brothers, whose vocal blend has never been equaled, in or out of bluegrass. If I can convince you to pledge $75 or more to support the hard work that goes into preparing and presenting the music you love on BluegrassCountry.org, you’ll treasure your copy of this wonderful set for years. I welcome your pledge and support–either on line or BGC’s toll free number, 1-877-448-2242.

Music from Foggy Hollow
This week’s Music from Foggy Hollow is a very special show. Mike Kear features the women in bluegrass. For a long time the women tended to take a back room role in the bluegrass music business, but increasingly, they’re coming to the front of the stage, making their own music. This week, Mike celebrates this trend as every cut on the show is either all-female or female-lead. Featured CD is “Bluegrass Bouquet”, by the Daughters of Bluegrass, and Mike plays several songs from that CD. Also, he talks with Dixie Hall, who originated the project. And Erio Meili in Brazil contributes a song to the special too. It’s a big program, and a feature dear to Mike’s heart. Tune in – it’s a beauty!

The old hymns will still be featured to start the third hour and stay tuned for perhaps a couple of guests on the phone to help us focus on the need to expand our membership. I’m sure the Stained Glass Bluegrass family will come through for us as they always have.
