Pat and Patrick Costello, a father-son musical duo, had been playing and teaching music over the internet together for years. But, when an email from a stranger in the Netherlands arrived last October, they had to rethink what they knew about how they taught music. The man writing was blind, but wanted to play the banjo tablatures he found on their website. Soon, the younger of the Costellos, Patrick, had created a system to translate banjo tablature into Braille. The Costellos join Ria Misra to discuss tabbing banjo music into Braille and how Patrick’s experiences in learning music while losing his own hearing influenced his teaching.
