This week, host Fred Bartenstein features a number of songs associated with the Carter Family, Bill and Charlie Monroe, and Ira and Charlie Louvin. Surprises include Norman Blake and the Dixieland Drifters’ fusion of bluegrass and rockabilly on Sun Records (1957), Skeeter Davis’ convincing “I Won’t Be Hanging ‘Round” (1968), and a Romanian Gypsy tune which echoes Nickel Creek’s performance of Tim O’Brien’s “Land’s End” (2000).
