This week’s show is a memorial tribute to Hazel Dickens, the most powerful and influential singer and songwriter of our time. It includes her early recordings with Alice Gerrard, a later one with Ginny Hawker and Carol Elizabeth Jones, and selections from her three Rounder albums of the 1980s. In addition, there are excerpts from a 1987 interview done with Hazel Dickens by program host Peter Thompson. “In the dead of the night, in the still and the quiet/I slip away like a bird in flight/Back to those hills, the place that I call home.”
