March 22-28: Cry From the Cross — 40 Years Of Ralph Stanley’s Gospel

This week’s Bluegrass Signal spotlights 40 years of Ralph Stanley’s bluegrass gospel music, from a 1968 recording with Larry Sparks to the brand-new release from grandson Nathan Stanley. There are selections from Dr. Ralph’s classic bands of the 1970s and ’80s (with Roy Lee Centers, Keith Whitley, Ricky Skaggs, Charlie Sizemore, and others), a few guest appearances (Judy Marshall, Alison Krauss, the Issacs), and the near-constant support of Jack Cooke and Curly Ray Cline. The show begins and ends with the title song: “Cry From the Cross.”
