As the election heat begins to match July temperatures, we’re offered a refreshing choice of Obsolete presidential candidates to compete with the real ones. If that’s not sufficiently compelling, a bedbug medley featuring Ernest Tubb, Bessie Smith and Wilmoth Houdini ought to do the trick. We’ll hear “Farwell Blues” by its New Orleans creators, along with a Hawaiian interpretation and the classic Earl Scruggs arrangement. “Don’t Let Your Deal Go Down” started with Charlie Poole in 1925 and it’s never gone away, as Cowboy Copas, Fiddlin’ John and Flatt & Scruggs will attest.
