Listener Supported Bluegrass Radio in the Nation’s Capital and Around the World!
Bluegrass Country Radio is a station built by listeners for listeners. Started more than 50 years ago at WAMU 88.5 FM in Washington, DC, the station is now operated and funded by the nonprofit Bluegrass Country Foundation. From hosts to musicians to listeners, Bluegrass Country Radio continues to foster a community of bluegrass fans from far and wide.
The station can be heard 24/7 on HD radio at 88.5FM Channel 2 in the Washington area, streaming worldwide at BluegrassCountry.org and via a free smart phone app (Apple iOS and Android devices.)
Take a look at the program list and you’ll see that there’s nothing else like it. Bluegrass Country doesn’t have playlists; we’re not a jukebox shuffling through a hard drive of hits. Every show on this station is hosted by a real live person, selecting the music from our incomparable song library, or a personal record collection that probably includes songs you’ll never hear anywhere else. We play the whole range of bluegrass, from the pioneers to the present, from traditional to experimental and everything in between. We play old time, classic country, folk, rare blues and jazz, zydeco, roots and modern Americana, and even a taste of Grateful Dead. Our shows originate in our Washington studio, as well as radio stations and studios around the US and the world, and include live performances as well as records.
We value your feedback, we ask for your financial support, and we urge you to volunteer if you have an interest in helping the station. Check back often for updates on our membership options, designed to keep you in closer touch with the music and the musicians.
Thank you for listening and spread the word!
