The Mike Auldridge Instrumental Contest is now accepting entries for the 2021 competition.

Sponsored by the DC Bluegrass Union (DCBU), the competition rewards winning original compositions from bluegrass, old-time, and related musicians.  Entries are judged by a three-person panel of music industry leaders, who evaluate tunes for melody, chord structure, catchiness and originality.  Cash prizes are awarded to the top three tunes.

Go to the DCBU site for contest rules and instructions for entering, along with links to the winning songs from 2020.  The deadline for entering the contest is October 10, and winners will be announced on November 7.  Note this is a one-week extension from the original deadline.

This is the fifth year for the DCBU instrumental contest, named in honor of the late Mike Auldridge, legendary Dobro player for The Seldom Scene.

Proceeds from the Mike Auldridge Instrumental Competition help support the nonprofit DC Bluegrass Union in its mission to promote bluegrass music in the greater Washington DC area through performance and education.
