Tune up the fiddle, rosin up the bow, and enter your band in the DC Bluegrass Union’s annual Mid-Atlantic Bluegrass Band Contest for 2020.  The band contest kicks off the DC Bluegrass Festival, March 28 in Falls Church, VA..

Now in its ninth year, the contest offers a showcase for local and regional bands, and awards the following money prizes and stage time to the top three bands.  First prize is $800, plus a 30-minute set to start the festival, and a show date on the Lucketts Bluegrass Series at the historic Old Schoolhouse in Lucketts, VA.  Second prize is $500 and third prize is $300.

The contest begins at 12 noon.  Each band will get ten minutes on stage to perform two songs – one vocal and one instrumental.  Winners will be selected by a three-judge panel.

The contest is open for entries now.   The entry fee is $50 and entries must be received by March 18. Review the rules and complete an on-line entry form here, or download an entry form to mail in. Contact bandcompetition@dcbu.org with any questions.

The contest and festival are sponsored by the DC Bluegrass Union, a nonprofit organization serving the bluegrass music community in the Washington, DC area.
