It wouldn’t be a stretch to call the latest SPBGMA awards ceremony The Kody Norris Show, as the band won seven of the nineteen awards – Entertainer, Band, Instrumental Group, Song and Album of the Year plus individual awards for banjo player Josiah Tyree and fiddler Mary Rachel Nalley-Norris.

SPBGMA, the Society for Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America, is an organization dedicated to maintaining the traditional spirit and art form of bluegrass music.  Here are the 2024 awards, presented at its annual convention in Nashville in February.

  • Entertainer of the Year – The Kody Norris Show
  • Bluegrass Band (Overall) of the Year – The Kody Norris Show
  • Gospel Group of the Year – Authentic Unlimited
  • Vocal Group of the Year – Authentic Unlimited
  • Instrumental Group of the Year – The Kody Norris Show
  • Song of the Year – I Call Her Sunshine – The Kody Norris Show
  • Bluegrass Album of the Year – Rhinestone Revival – The Kody Norris Show
  • Bluegrass Songwriter of the Year  – Donna Ulisse
  • Male Vocalist of the Year  – Russell Moore
  • Female Vocalist of the Year – Rhonda Vincent
  • Bass Fiddle Performer of the Year – Edgar Loudermilk
  • Dobro Performer of the Year – Gaven Largent
  • Guitar Performer of the Year – Kenny Smith
  • Mandolin Performer of the Year – Alan Bibey
  • Banjo Performer of the Year – Josiah Tyree
  • Fiddle Performer of the Year – Mary Rachel Nalley-Norris
  • Bluegrass Promoter of the Year – Ernie Evans
  • Bluegrass Radio Station of the Year – The Bluegrass Jamboree
  • Bluegrass DJ of the Year – Kyle Cantrell

The annual convention also features a band contest.  Top prize winners in 2024 were:

  • 1st – Sylamore Special (Arkansas)
  • 2nd – Off the Rails (Tennessee)
  • 3rd – The Baker Family (Missouri)
